Geotechnical Investigation

Our experienced Geotechnical Engineers and Engineering Geologists perform Geotechnical Investigations to obtain information on physical properties of soil and rock in order to design earthworks and foundations for proposed structures. A geotechnical investigation usually includes surface and subsurface exploration of a site.

Surface exploration can include geologic mapping and geophysical methods or it can be as simple as a geotechnical professional walk around the site to observe the physical conditions.

Subsurface exploration usually involves soil sampling by boring or excavating of trial pits. The investigation might include in-situ tests or laboratory tests of the soil samples retrieved.

Some of the in-situ tests that can be performed by our experienced engineers are:

  • Standard Penetration Test – SPT
  • Cone Penetration Test – CPT
  • Permeability Test
  • DCP Test
  • CBR
  • Plate Bearing Test
